Meta structures introduced plans to legally task an order through India’s competition commission (CCI) that imposes restrictions on information sharing between WhatsApp and other Meta-owned applications.
The CCI directed WhatsApp to halt records sharing for marketing functions for five years and fined Meta $25.four million for antitrust violations tied to the app’s 2021 privateness coverage.
The CCI commenced investigating the coverage in March 2021 after it enabled statistics sharing among Meta and its subsidiaries, triggering global grievance. The watchdog emphasised that access to WhatsApp in India must no longer be conditioned on information sharing for functions beyond WhatsApp offerings.
Meta defended its policy, stating that the replace did no longer affect the privacy of personal messages or consumer bills.
